Frizzy, Wavy Hair on Rainy Days: 6 Tips for Easier Morning Styling

On rainy or humid days, your hair puffs up or the ends flip out, and morning styling takes time. We often hear about this concern at our salons too. How frizz and waves appear differs from person to person, but just reviewing a little how you handle your hair every day can make styling easier. REMENTE staff introduce 6 tips you can try from today.

1. Brush dry hair before shampooing

Brush lightly before washing to loosen tangles. This makes lathering easier and reduces friction while washing.

2. Wash the scalp gently, and do not rub the ends

Shampoo as if washing the scalp with the pads of your fingers. For the ends, just passing the lather through is enough. Work the treatment in mainly on the ends, and rinse thoroughly so none is left behind.

3. Towel dry by "pressing"

Avoid scrubbing your hair with the towel; remove water by pressing it as if sandwiching the hair. Wet hair is in a very delicate state.

4. Apply leave-in treatment before drying

Before using the hair dryer, work a leave-in treatment such as a milk or oil into the ends; it protects hair from the dryer's heat and gives a pleasant feel to the finish. Using too much makes hair sticky, so try starting with a small amount.

How to choose a leave-in treatment to apply before drying is compared in How to Choose a Leave-In Treatment for Frizzy Hair.

5. Dry from the roots, and finish by directing the air from top to bottom

Frizz tends to appear when hair is left half-dry. First dry the roots thoroughly, then for the finish direct the dryer's air from top to bottom and smooth the hair flow with your fingers. Finishing with cool air helps the style settle.

6. For morning styling, "dampen slightly" first

For parts where bed hair or waves bother you, lightly dampening them with a spray bottle before shaping with the dryer makes them easier to handle. Applying a small amount of oil or balm to finish gives a glossy, well-settled look.
