How to Choose a KÉRASTASE Shampoo: Differences Between the Series
KÉRASTASE has many shampoos, and many people may feel the differences are hard to tell from the names alone. KÉRASTASE divides its products into "series" by hair and scalp concern. It is easier to decide if you first choose the series that matches your concern, then pick from within it by your preferred finish.
Choosing a series by concern
The KÉRASTASE official site shows the following concerns for each series.
- Bothered by dryness: Nutritive
- Bothered by frizz or lack of cohesion: Discipline
- Bothered by damage: Résistance, Première
- Bothered by color fading: Chroma Absolu
- High-tone or bleached hair: Blond Absolu
- Want shine: Gloss Absolu
- Concerned about your scalp: Specifique
- Hair and scalp that tend to weaken: Genesis
- Care suited to age: Densifique
Dryness and roughness | Nutritive

If you like a moist, cohesive finish, Bain Satin Riche; if dryness bothers you but you dislike a heavy finish, Bain Satin R. Both are moisture shampoos containing niacinamide, plant-derived protein and glycerin.
Frizz and cohesion | Discipline

For hair that is hard to settle due to frizz and spreading, Bain Oléo-Relax. It is designed to help keep hair cohesive even on humid days. For hair bothered by tangles and knots, there is Bain Fluidéaliste 1.
Damage | Résistance and Première

Résistance is a series you can choose by KÉRASTASE damage level.
- Relatively light damage (levels 1–2): Bain de Force N
- Heavily damaged hair (levels 3–4): Bain Thérapiste (gel shampoo)
- For those who want to grow their hair despite damage: Bain Extentioniste (also cares for the scalp)
Première's Bain Décalcifiant is a cream-type shampoo without sulfate surfactants, for hair bothered by breakage. A method of using it after Damage Repair Concentrate, which is used before shampooing, is introduced.
Color and high tones | Chroma Absolu and Blond Absolu

For those who want to enjoy their color longer, Bain Chroma Protect. For bleached or high-tone colored hair, there is Blond Absolu's Bain Lumière, and the purple-pigmented Bain Ultra-Violet for when yellow or orange tones bother you. The purple-pigmented type is rinsed off right after lathering.
Shine | Gloss Absolu

For those aiming for glossy hair, Bain Cream Hydra-Glaze. A creamy shampoo containing sodium hyaluronate and more.
Scalp | Specifique, Genesis and Densifique

- Bothered by scalp oiliness: Bain Divalent R
- Want to gently wash a scalp prone to dryness: Bain Sensidote
- For scalp and hair that tend to weaken: Bain Hydra-Fortifiant, or Bain Nutri-Fortifiant for a moister finish
- Hair feels like it is lacking body and bounce: Bain Densifique
- Want to care for scalp and hair together: Bain Chronologiste R (Chronologiste)
Usage guide
For many of the shampoos, the guide amount is about 7g for semi-long hair. The method introduced is to brush, pre-rinse, leave the lather on for about 1–3 minutes, then rinse. Leave-on times differ by product, so please check the directions for each.
