Kérastase vs Milbon: Which Salon Brand Fits Your Hair?
Kérastase and MILBON are two of the salon brands our stylists at REMENTE use and recommend most. Both are sold mainly through hair salons in Japan, but they feel quite different. Here is a practical comparison to help you choose.
The brands in brief
- KÉRASTASE was founded in Paris in 1964 as a professional luxury hair care brand built on the idea that every person’s hair and scalp are different. In Japan it is distributed by Nihon L’Oréal. Shop KÉRASTASE
- MILBON is a Japanese professional hair care maker, incorporated in 1960 and headquartered in Tokyo, that develops products for hair salons, including care and color. Shop MILBON

Choose by concern
Dry hair

KÉRASTASE Nutritive, for example Bain Satin Riche, gives a soft, moist finish. From MILBON, the jemile fran line offers shampoo and treatment pairs in different finishes.
Frizz and tangles

KÉRASTASE Discipline (for example Bain Fluidéaliste 1) is made for hair that tangles and frizzes. MILBON’s ELUJUDA leave-in range is popular for taming hair before blow-drying.
Damaged hair

KÉRASTASE Première focuses on calcium that builds up inside damaged hair, combining citric acid and glycine; try Bain Décalcifiant with the pre-shampoo Concentré Décalcifiant.
Color-treated and bleached hair
KÉRASTASE Chroma Absolu for color and Blond Absolu for blonde. MILBON’s ELUJUDA Bleach Care is made specifically for bleached hair. More in our bleached hair guide.
Shine after blow-drying

MILBON jemile fran Heat Gloss uses the heat of your dryer to create a glossy finish, in S, M and J types for different hair.
A third option: Little Scientist
Little Scientist is a Japanese salon brand with series for frizz and waves (ToiToiToi), dull, dry hair (GALBA) and the scalp (Mu Scalp), plus the ReKERA leave-in range.
Our advice
Start with one shampoo and treatment pair from the series that matches your main concern, use it for a few weeks, then add a leave-in. If you are not sure, ask a stylist at REMENTE or see our guide How to Choose a Japanese Salon Shampoo.
We ship within Japan only. Orders of ¥3,980 or more (tax incl.) ship free to Honshu, Shikoku and Kyushu (¥440 to Hokkaido/Okinawa), and you can also pick up at a REMENTE salon in Yokkaichi or Matsusaka.
Results vary from person to person. If a product does not suit your skin, stop using it and consult a dermatologist.
